World war II was a devastating war that consisted of two sides, the Allies and the Axis. The Axis' whole goal was to take over the whole world while the Allies' whole goal was to prevent the advance of the Axis at all costs. The Allies consisted of many countries, but the most prominent were the Soviet Union, the United States, the United Kingdom, France and China. While the Axis' forces consisted of mainly, Germany, Japan and Italy. The Allies ended up winning the war, but at what cost? Over 60 million people (mainly civilians) were killed or MIA at the end of the war just for the Allies. The Axis' total casualities amounted to some 12 million lives lost. With a total of over 70 million people killed, World War II is hands down the most history altering war ever.

The war had many memorable moments in terms of heroism, courage and bravery, with the Allied forces, but that was all over-shadowed by terrible loss and tragedy. While the Allies fought for what was good, the Axis fought blindly for the man that they believed would make Germany a super-powered nation again. He did make Germany remembered, but for all the wrong reasons. Slavery, the Holocaust, and the attack on Pearl Harbor are just some of the scarring events that stand out among other things that Hitler and the Axis did. Granted, the Allies weren't always doing the right thing either. The Allies dropped the first and only atomic bomb ever used in warfare of the city of Hiroshima, causing millions of innocent lives to be lost. Even though this tactic effectively caused Japanese surrender, many people believe that there could have been an easier way.

World War II lasted for 6 years, involved many countries and spanned across the globe. It had many feats of bravery and courage, but also featured an equal number of tragic events and terrible loss. I suppose that's how war goes: all I know is that this war will not be soon forgotten.
